Teaching New Generations

Teaching a New Generation the Value of Freedom

America’s Freedom Center offers educational programs that focus on service to our country, recognition of sacrifice and remembrance of our past including the heroes who left us a legacy of freedom and democracy.

A top priority of America’s Freedom Center and its associated educational programs is to help fourth through twelfth grade students to meet state and national performance standards in American History and Social Studies.

Research has proven that people learn better and recall more by experiencing events than by simply memorizing facts. Understanding this, America’s Freedom Center seeks to make history a new experience by placing visitors in historical surroundings and contexts. One way in which visitors will experience history is through first-hand stories.

Oral Histories

America’s Freedom Center strives to have an extensive collection of oral histories that tell the stories of America’s diplomatic and military efforts from the perspective of those who were involved. These stories will be incorporated into the interactive exhibits in order to provide visitors with a more engaging and memorable experience. We will include oral histories from World War II to the present and from civilians (medical volunteers, USO workers, flight instructors, etc) as well as veterans.

All oral histories will comply with the Library of Congress Veterans History Project standards. To learn more about the Veterans History Project please visit www.loc.gov/vets/
